    Dine at Great Sage restaurant in Clarksville, Maryland, on January 19, 2014
    and ten percent of sales will be donated to The Vegetarian Resource Group.

This is not a group gathering, but if you come during brunch, meet our new
volunteer coordinator, Nina Casalena.

Brunch is 10am-3pm with specialty pancakes, biscuits and gravy, tofu quiche

Held on the last Saturday every month at the Learning Center of Your
Prescription
for Health, 10210 S. Dolfield Rd. in Owings Mills, EarthSave presents a
vegan
potluck and presentation. They eat first, make announcements, vote and
present
awards for their favorite dishes, and then have a presentation. To RSVP,

to either bring a dish made without animal products (to serve 8) plus $5

SPEND YOUR TUESDAYS DISCUSSING CURRENT ISSUES IN WHOLE-FOOD PLANT-BASED
NUTRITION
Held at 7:00PM on the second Tuesday of every month at varying locations,
The Baltimore Whole Food Plant-Based Nutrition Meet-Up meets to discuss some
of the current topics and issues in whole-food plant-based nutrition.

In January, you can join Mark and many others at Akbar Palace, located at
3541 Brenbook Dr., Randallstown, MD on January 14th at 7:00 PM. This month's
topic is: Six Ways to Vaccinate Yourself against Colds and Flu----No Needle

  1. STAND UP FOR ANIMALS USED IN ENTERTAINMENT
    Join Open the Cages Alliance on Saturday, January 18th from 5:00PM-5:30PM
    outside the Baltimore Area at 201 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.
    Here, avid animal rights supporters will come together to advocate for
    animals
    used in entertainment.

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus intends to make an
appearance
in the Baltimore Arena this coming March/April, so this event will be a
pre-emptive
outreach event.

There will be leafletting as well as conversing with families who may be
planning
to attend the circus or other events that use animals for entertainment.
This
particular pre-emptive outreach event is scheduled prior to the "Fresh Beat
Band" concert at the Arena that evening. In addition to our Truth About
Animals
in Entertainment brochure, we will distribute our animal-friendly
entertainment
list and have personal pledges for people to sign, pledging not to attend
traveling animal acts and asking that Baltimore City Hall not allow Ringling
or other traveling animal acts to return to Baltimore.

  1. FOOD NETWORK PRAISES JYOTI'S MADRAS SAMBAR
    Jyoti Natural Foods has been producing pre-packaged vegetarian Indian
    cuisine
    since 1979. Recently, their madras sambar (a popular vegan dish) was
    featured
    on Food Network's "Food Factory" show. The following video is a 5 minute

  1. APPLY TO THE VRG SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST NOW
    Each year, The Vegetarian Resource Group awards $10,000 in college
    scholarship
    money to graduating high school seniors who have worked hard to promote
    vegetarianism
    in their school and/or communities. Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish,
    or fowl.

Only students graduating from a US high school in the spring of 2014 are
allowed
to enter; their applications must be sent in by February 20, 2014.
Applicants
will be judged on having shown compassion, courage, and a strong commitment
to promoting a peaceful world through a vegetarian diet/lifestyle. Payment
will be made to the student's US based college of choice.

  1. ROCKVILLE'S VEGETABLE GARDEN MOVING TO SILVER SPRING
    In 2012, after 19 years on Rockville Pike, the vegan Chinese restaurant
    called
    Vegetable Garden, packed up shop. On November 21st, the Vegetable Garden's
    owner announced to his still-faithful customers that The Vegetable Garden
    would return in December, but this time at a location in Silver Spring.
